What Is My Purpose?

What Is My Purpose?

Purpose means the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.  I believe everybody has a purpose and potential to make a difference, but they must search themselves before they can serve their purpose.  Finding your purpose is not an easy task.  It involves knowing your strengths and weaknesses, along with tying them into your likes and dislikes.  No one can tell you what you are meant to do simply because nobody knows you more then yourself, however the question, “what is my purpose”, still leaves me without a clue.  Although I do not know exactly what my purpose is, I do know that I have a drive to learn everything that I can possibly learn and be the best person I can be.  I also know that I have natural talent in some areas that may be what I was meant to do.  I am hoping to find my purpose while pursuing my goals in life.
I am the type of person that lives life one day at a time.  I am a very laid back individual that plays the male figure in my family.  I am currently a high school senior that lives with my mom and little sister.  I believe a part of my purpose is to not only be the best son that I can be, but also a role model that my younger sister, Lexi, can look up too.  I am the type of person that will do anything for somebody close to me.  I strive to be that dependable person that can be called upon no matter what the situation is because I simply enjoy helping people.
Academics have always been an area I am strong in.  Since I do exceptionally well in mathematics and sciences I have decided that I will not let my potential go to waste.  After high school I plan on attending college and studying a branch of engineering at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  Obviously, my purpose in college is to be a good student and maintain good grades, but I do believe that college is the time in my life where I need to have a little fun and have great experiences that I will not have the opportunity to have later on in my life.  UNL is a good fit for me because I want to go to college somewhere close to home so I can come back home whenever I am needed and still be a role model for my younger sister.  Another reason I feel that UNL is a good fit for me is because they are known for their strong engineering program.  Going to a college far away is not an option for me because I feel like I would be leaving the only life I know behind.  I have grown up in the same town all my life and all my friends are going to be in the same area.  I still am not sure exactly which direction I am heading, but I have an idea and I think it will lead me to a career that I will excel in and can make a difference.  So far that is the plan, but everybody knows that plans can change.
After college is where my purpose in life is a little foggy.  As my life goes on I am sure that I will find my purpose, but as of right now all I know is that I want to be successful in whatever I am doing.  I hope to be someone who is looked up to and also someone that can be counted on.  Although I may not know what career I will be in I am sure that I will not be located far from where I am now.  I still haven’t decided on whether I will start a family and have kids or not.  I obviously have plenty of time to think about a decision like that, but it is a possibility.  If that is the route my life takes I think my life will take on a whole new purpose all together.  I hope to be the best family man that I can be and raise a family with good values so they can have a meaningful purpose of their own.
It is hard to tell what twists and turns my life may take, but no matter what happens some of my purposes will remain the same.  My purposes are simple.  Experience all the great things in life.  Be the best person I can be.  Make a difference in as many people’s lives as possible.  But ultimately my purpose is to live my life day by day with no regrets.

Where I’m From
Where am I from?  I was born August 10, 1994 in Hastings, Nebraska.  All my life I have lived in rural, central Nebraska.  In my opinion I have grown up in the best place in the world.  I am from the country side of small town Aurora, Nebraska.  The only life I have ever known is farm life and I am grateful for it.  Living in the country has given me the appreciation of hard work, family, and values which have made me who I am today.
I was only 3 years old when my family and I moved to the countryside of Aurora.  We lived in a house right next to the family farm, and sadly the loud, roaring interstate.  Living and working on a farm was a great way to grow up.  I always felt free to do anything I wanted to do.  There was never a moment when I had nothing to do.  I could entertain myself for hours just running around in the tree line playing with sticks.  As I got older I spent more time working down at the farm.  By the age of 12  I knew the farm and every field we owned like the back of my hand.  My mom and step-dad even taught me how to run almost every piece of equipment we owned.  Not many kids were operating everything from tractors, skid steers, and four-wheelers before they had a driver’s license.  Little did I know that kids my age couldn’t even imagine doing the things that I did on a day to day basis.  We also owned a wide variety of animals.  We owned horses, cows, goats, cats, dogs, and everything in between.  I know now that I owe all of the privileges from my childhood to where I am from.  The older I got the more I discovered that I hate people.  I am far from anti-social, but I could not live in a big city full of people.  There is just something about small towns that make you feel more welcome.  I picture myself living outside a small town for the rest of my life.
My life took a series of twists and turns close to three years ago, and my family and I were forced to move out of the house that I have lived in throughout my childhood.  We did not move far, however.  We actually built our new house just a couple miles down the road.  Ever since then my mom and I have been constantly working on our new land.  My mom and I have basically done everything on our own.  Our consistent hard work has made our piece of land into what we call home.  I love our new home, but sometimes I think back to all the good times I’ve had in my old house.
When I think of where I’m from my school immediately comes to mind.  I’ve gone to the same school all my life and I am proud to call myself a husky.  Although we are proud of our academics here, Friday night football games are what this school is all about.  It is a tradition of ours that is very strong and it feels good to know that I have done my part keeping the tradition of where I’m from alive.  Our school is probably like most other small town schools.  The drama is constant, rumors spread like wild fire, and there are no secrets.  I don’t like any of this, but I can’t really help it.  It’s just one more fact of where I am from.  I do believe my school is unique in some ways however.  For a small school we have a wide variety of personalities among the students.  We also make sure to have fun every chance we get.
Lastly, I am a resident of the great state of Nebraska.  When people think of Nebraska they typically think of corn fields as far as the eye can see, but there is a lot more that people don’t know.  I have travelled quite a few times in my life.  Every time I am out of state too long I begin to miss back home.  I think Nebraska is home to the best people in the country and that is what attracts me to it so much.  I am very confident that I will consider Nebraska home for as long as I live.  So for all of you that want to find me in the years to come, start by searching outside of a small town in Nebraska.

Life Soundtrack

Who am I?  This is a very broad question, and a difficult one to answer.  I am many things.  Way too much to list.  A brief overview of who I am would be a hardworking, intelligent, unselfish, humorous, lover, and fighter for what I believe in.  I can accredit my character today to my mom, and the obstacles I have overcame growing up.  They both have shaped me into the unique individual I am today.
I am Logan Geiger.  I was born and raised in the small town of Aurora, Nebraska.  I grew up on a farm with my mom, Gina Schaffert, and my stepdad, Eric Schaffert.  I am the middle child of the family with my older sister, Jacie, and my younger sister, Lexi.  I also have two step brothers, Vince and Jordan.  We always ignored the fact that we are not blood related and acted as if we are biological siblings.  I am confident that there nobody else had a family quite like mine.  People may say that we are a little dysfunctional at times, but we still possess moral values as well.  I had a very fortunate childhood growing up.  There was never a dull moment when their was horses to ride, guns to shoot, four-wheelers and dirt bikes to tear around on, and my family to hang out with.  Looking back on it now I may have taken things for granted too much.
That’s how things used to be.  My life is very different now.  One thing I have learned about life is that things can change in a blink of an eye.  My brother, Vince, joined the Marines and was deployed to Afghanistan, my stepdad and Jordan passed away in a two month span, Jacie went off on her own, and my mom, Lexi, and I moved out of the house I lived in my whole life.  It feels like all this happened in a week.  I still live out in the country of Aurora, but that is about the only thing that didn’t change.  These changes played a big roll on who I am now.  I took on the job as the man in the house now, and I don’t take anything for granted.  I now make an attempt to live every day like it is my last.  You never really know when your last day is gonna be.  That has made a big impact on who I am today.
The I obstacles I have faced are not the only things that represent me, however.  I also have many passions that say a lot about who I am.  I take great pride in being a student athlete.  Student comes first, because what happens in the class room is going to be a bigger impact on my future, but I love athletics.  I participate in football, wrestling, and track.  There is something inside of me that drives me to compete.  No matter what it is, I am always trying to be the best I can be.  Wrestling and track are fun, but football season is my favorite.  Playing football for Aurora is something very special.  It has shown me how when a team plays with unity, nothing can stop them.  The coaches don’t only teach the game of football.  Every week they work to teach us values that we can take with us in life.  It is safe to say that my coaches have contributed to what makes me, me.
My friends haven’t played a huge roll on who I am, but there is a saying that goes, “you are who your friends are”.  This saying does hold some truths because people tend to spend the most time with others that have similar behaviors and personalities.  I am confident to say that my friends are awesome.  We all are able to take jokes, and have great senses of humor.  You can guarantee that there will not be a dull moment when you have us all in the same place.  We may not have the smartest ideas all the time, but hey, we are teenagers.  Last of all a good friend is somebody that you can count on no matter what, and I have plenty of them in my life.
This is a brief summary of who I am, and what made me who I am today.  I am many things.  I am a lover that has no problem fighting for what I believe in, I am a son of a family that I would do anything for, and I am a teenager that has an endless list of passions and hobbies.  Most of all, I am and individual that believes on living life one day at a time.
